We owe a huge debt of gratitude to those who help the Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center thrive as an organization.  Thank you so much for your continued interest and support.

WHRO/Curate:  In January-2019, WHRO reached out and asked to use our Art Center as a studio  for episodes 11 and 12 of the Curate Show.  They planned to feature several local area artists and musicians and wanted to film the studio scenes at our Art Center.  You can still see these shows on-line at WHRO/Curate – please watch Episode 11 – Art is Fearless featuring Karen Schwartz talking about our Annual High School Student  Show with many photos of the exhibit.  Next, watch Episode 12 – Art is Soulful featuring Janis Wood, President, talking about our wonderful Blue Building and it’s history, with many photos of our space and exhibit.  Both shows are full of inspiring stories about artists, musicians and talented people all over the country. This show is a must see every week and we can’t thank WHRO and Curate enough for allowing us to be a part of these stories.  A special thanks to Danny Epperson, Producer, Neil Grochmal, Camera, and Heather Mazzoni and Jason Kypros, Hosts.  This was a fantastic experience, and we can’t thank WHRO/Curate enough!!

Jamestown Yorktown Foundation: In 2018, WCAC and Jamestown Yorktown Foundation formed a partnership to commission an original contemporary piece of art for the Foundation’s 2019 Forgotten Soldier exhibit at Yorktown. The exhibit opened on June 29, 2019 and commemorated the role of African Americans as soldiers in the Revolutionary War.  WCAC’s initial role was to identify and recruit a major African American artist, Titus Kaphar, for the exhibit.  WCAC continued to work and support the Foundation and the artist throughout the run of the exhibit which ended in March 2020.

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and Williamsburg Regional Library: In partnership with both entities,  WCAC presents Centuries of Art, a series of lectures in the spring and fall which are held in the library’s auditorium.  These lectures feature well-known scholars in the arts and humanities chosen by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.  Lectures are free and open to the public.

College of William & Mary and James City County Parks & Recreation:  In the Spring and Fall, WCAC provides art activities for children with special needs and/or physical disabilities.  The program, Buddy Art, is tailored to the individual ages, abilities and interests of the children.  The Buddies are volunteers from William & Mary,  and JCCPR provides the space and transportation.

Grantors & Sponsors

We rely on grants and sponsors each year to support our programs, events, operations and capital improvements.  Thank you to the following grantors and sponsors:

Marietta McNeill Morgan & Samuel Tate Morgan, Jr. Trust, Bank of America Trustee: This Exterior Capital Improvement grant enabled us to transform our backyard into a beautiful fenced area with lovely concrete walkways and patio.  It is now a safe haven for classes, workshops, and events – we are so grateful for this wonderful gift!

Towne Insurance: Formerly Middle Peninsula Insurance – this company has been our insurance agent for many years. Throughout this time, they have sponsored several of our shows and/or special events.  Last year, they were sponsors of our Regional Juried Show which helped underwrite two cash awards given through this show.

Williams Landscape & Design, Inc.: Aaron Williams, President of Williams Landscape and Design, Inc. gifted us with a complete front yard makeover!  On May 11, 2018, he brought his entire crew to transform our front yard into new low maintenance rock gardens, mulched beds, and plants that will attract birds and butterflies for years to come.  Aaron and his crew have maintained the grounds to ensure that they remain viable and beautiful, and will do so through the end of this year!  Thank you Aaron and your wonderful crew!

Aaron Williams (Williams Landscape & Design, Inc.) – Auctioneer par excellence:   We thank Aaron for his many years as our auctioneer at our fundraising events.  Last year’s Rock Around the Clock – 60th Birthday Party! was made even more special because of Aaron’s contributions.

Williamsburg Area Arts Commission:  Through a grant from the City of Williamsburg, we are able to fund a significant number of our programs, exhibits, and operations each year.  Without their help, we could not function at the levels we do, not only in the continuation and expansion of our exhibits and outreach programs, but also operationally. This organization is dedicated to supporting Greater Williamsburg arts organizations, and we owe them a gigantic thank you each year for their support!!!

Williamsburg Community Foundation:    Thanks to a grant from the WCF, we were able to offset the prize monies for our Regional Juried Show last year.  The show was widely attended and a big success – we thank WCF for its support!!

York County Arts Commission: In FY 2020, YCAC helped with promos for the Forgotten Soldier Exhibit at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. They later supported our own show, Untold Stories – An African American Perspective. This community outreach show was designed to promote cultural understanding of African American history in Central and Greater Hampton Roads Virginia. It was a resounding success and drew many visitors to the area! After closing the show in March, we will continue it on-line through September.  We thank YCAC for its support for these important initiatives!

Donors, Members and Volunteers

Without your help, we could not function as a viable and thriving Art Center – you make it possible for us to continue our programs, exhibits and operations.  Through your donations, memberships, and volunteer efforts, we have been able to continue moving forward each year.  We can’t thank you enough for your support and would be lost without you!
